Blue Mountains City Council

Cultural Strategy

The Strategy provides a 10 year cultural planning framework in response to the Vision and Map for Action towards a More Sustainable Blue Mountains 2000-2025.

It has been prepared in recognition of the different Federal, State and Regional cultural planning policies and agreements, and follows the Cultural Planning Guidelines for Local Government released in 2004 by the NSW Department of Local Government and Ministry for the Arts.

This strategy identifies cultural strengths and advantages of the Blue Mountains, along with aspirations of the local community and visitors.

Council has prepared this Cultural Strategy with the involvement of key stakeholders including arts and cultural heritage representatives.

It aims to be inclusive of different forms of cultural production, preservation, interpretation, and public presentation especially in relationship to economic development and tourism.

This strategy complements planning policies for community development, sport and recreation, the natural and built environment, and urban design.

A number of more detailed studies are proposed in this Strategy. In particular further consultation is to be undertaken with Aboriginal people on matters relating to their cultural practices and aspirations.
