Resource Recovery & Waste Management Facilities
Blaxland and Katoomba both have a Resource Recovery and Waste Management Facility. Find out about the services they provide for residents.
Please read the important information below about changes to waste facilities and operations.
Closed: The Katoomba Resource Recovery and Waste Management Facility is closed until further notice. This is due to Council shutting non-essential services, as directed by the NSW Government, in an attempt to restrict the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Open (changed operating hours): Council’s normal domestic waste collection service will continue, and our Blaxland Facility remains open Monday - Saturday, but will be closed on Sundays. We are asking residents to avoid going to the Blaxland Facility for anything that isn't essential or urgent, during this time.
We know that generating waste is unavoidable, but please try to avoid any unnecessary activities that may generate large quantities of waste where possible.
Please note: the re-use shed at Blaxland is currently closed until further notice.
We have made the decision to only keep one facility open to limit staff and community exposure, while maintaining essential operations. The Blaxland Facility is the only landfill, so it must remain open. We are asking residents to avoid going to the Blaxland Facility for anything that isn't essential or urgent, during this time.
Blaxland does not accept most hazardous household chemicals. You can only take the following items to Blaxland:
Please don't take any of the following materials to Blaxland:
Please hold onto these items and dispose of them at the next free chemical Cleanout event. Council will promote the next date and location as soon as possible.
