Street tree and vegetation planting enhances the character of individual towns and villages.

Planting a street tree/shrub

Council encourages the planting of trees and shrubs near footpaths and nature strips. There are a few simple rules. These are set out in the Street Tree Planting Guide and the Street Tree Masterplan.

For example, select and position a tree / shrub so that it:

  • Compliments the character of the street / village.
  • Does not compete with above or below ground infrastructure.
  • Maintains good sight lines for pedestrian or vehicular access.

Garden beds or structures placed within the footpath area require approval. Further information is under 'Works in the road reserve'.

Issues with a street tree

Report a dead, dangerous tree on public land and we'll investigate.
