Blue Mountains Council Cadets, Apprentices and Traineeship (CATs) Program will commence in early 2021. Take this opportunity to kick start your career and earn while you learn!

Cadetships, apprenticeships and traineeships are available in the following areas:

  • Apprentice Civil Construction (V20/4986)

Apprentice – Civil Construction

This is a fantastic opportunity for you to join Council’s Traineeship Program commencing January / February 2021.  You will gain both invaluable work experience and a nationally recognised qualification, while you earn an income.

As a Civil Construction apprentice you will rotate amongst Council’s various road maintenance service crews, where you will learn to use techniques and plant equipment in constructing and maintaining roadways and footpaths.

At the successful completion of your apprenticeship you will be awarded with a Certificate III in Civil Construction (Road Maintenance and Construction).

Working Conditions:

  • 4 Year Apprenticeship
  • Based at Springwood or Katoomba Depot, working multiple sites 
  • Monday – Friday 6:30am – 3:00pm
  • Rostered Day Off (RDO) every 2 weeks (paid)
  • Class attendance will be required one week each 3 months at a Western Sydney TAFE 

Pre-Requisites:

  • White Card
  • Drivers Licence preferable due to work and study locations (not easily accessible by public transport).  In addition, a valid driver’s licence is required prior to undertaking other certifications/licences you may obtain during the term of your traineeship.

 

Carpenter Apprenticeship 

This is a fantastic opportunity for you to join Council’s Traineeship Program. You will gain both invaluable work experience and a nationally recognised qualification, while you earn an income.
    
As a carpenter apprentice you will work within Council’s Trades team. Your work tasks and projects will vary day to day, working across a broad range of Council assets and amongst other trade teams.

At the successful completion of your apprenticeship you will be awarded with a Certificate III in Carpentry.


Working Conditions:

  • 4 Year Apprenticeship
  • Based at Katoomba Depot, working multiple sites 
  • Monday – Friday 6:30am – 3:00pm
  • Rostered Day Off (RDO) every 2 weeks (paid)
  • Class attendance will be required one day per week at Nirimba (Quakers Hill) TAFE campus.

Pre-Requisites:

  • White Card (desirable)
  • Drivers Licence desirable due to work and study locations (not easily accessible by public transport).

 

Traineeship – Business Administration (ATSI targeted position)

Are you an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person thinking of a career in Business Administration? 

This is a fantastic opportunity for you to join Council’s Traineeship Program commencing January/February 2021. You will gain both invaluable work experience and a nationally recognised qualification, while you earn an income.

As a Business Administration trainee you will work within various teams across Council. Your work tasks and projects will vary day to day, as you become more proficient in office procedures and supporting your colleagues.

At the successful completion of your traineeship you will be awarded with a Certificate III in Business Administration.

Working conditions:

  • 2 year traineeship
  • Monday – Friday 8:30pm – 5:00pm
  • Rostered Day Off every 2 weeks (paid)
  • Class attendance will be required one day per week at Wentworth Falls TAFE campus

Pre-Requisites:

  • Traineeships will be offered to people of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander background – exemption granted under section 126 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977.

 

Traineeship – Horticulture (female)

This is a fantastic opportunity for you to join Council’s Traineeship Program commencing in January/February 2021.  You will gain both invaluable work experience and a nationally recognised qualification, while you earn an income.

As a Horticulture trainee you will rotate amongst the various Parks and Gardens service crews, where you will learn to use techniques and plant equipment in cultivating and maintaining Council’s parks, gardens and reserve areas.

At the successful completion of your traineeship you will be awarded with a Certificate III in Horticulture.

Working Conditions:

  • 2 Year Traineeship
  • Based from Springwood or Katoomba Depot, working multiple sites 
  • Monday – Friday; 6:30 am – 3:00pm
  • Rostered Day Off (RDO) every 2 weeks (paid)

Blue Mountains City Council is offering a graduate opportunity to an eligible and suitable candidate completing their Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering.  The cadetship is tailored to offer part-time work while the successful applicant completes their bachelor’s degree part-time.  The cadet will be mentored by long standing Council employees, gaining extensive knowledge and experience through the rotation of various areas of the Economy Place & Infrastructure Services and Environment & Planning Services branches.  Blue Mountains City Council will accommodate the graduate’s university studies whilst providing industry experience and knowledge to complement your studies and to further develop your personal and career development.

The position is targeted at an individual who wishes to pursue a career in civil, environmental or traffic and transport engineering.  The successful applicant will gain experience and knowledge through the rotation of a diverse range of tasks, responsibilities and projects within the civil, environmental, traffic and transport engineering disciplines, which may include;

  • Analysis and assessment of civil engineer designs
  • Traffic and transport investigation and assessment 
  • Engineering of drainage and road construction 
  • Civil construction inspections
  • Contract management
  • Project management
  • Civil engineering designs


Position Details:

  • Hours of work:    21 hours / 3 days per week (8:30am – 4:30pm) subject to full-time work (35 hrs p/w) during semester breaks
  • Study leave:    14 hours / 2 days per week (only granted during university semesters) 
  • Study support:    You will be provided 100% financial support for your remaining Bachelor of Engineering course fees 
  • Salary:    dependant on how many years completed

Eligibility: 

  • Have no more than 2 years (full-time) remaining of a Bachelor of Engineering by 1 February 2021
  • Be an Australian citizen 

 

Cadet Town Planner
