Clean Up Australia Day

Each year in early March hundreds of thousands of Australians get involved in cleaning up their local environment by collecting and removing rubbish on Clean Up Australia Day. It's fun, easy and anyone can get involved. You can organise your own site or join in with another.

The Blue Mountains get involved each year and make a difference with:

• Registered clean up sites across the Mountains;
• Local schools participating in the Schools clean Up Day;
• Businesses are encouraged to participate as well;

Across Australia approximately 593,400 volunteers clean up over 16,243 tonnes of rubbish from 7,363 sites.

Since the national event started in 1990, Australians have donated more than 27.2 million hours taking to their streets, bushland, parks and waterways on Clean Up Australia Day, removing an estimated 288,650 tonnes of rubbish from 145,754 sites across the country.

Clean Up Australia Day is always the first Sunday in March and schools Clean Up Day is held the preceding Friday.
