Blue Mountains Heritage Advisory Committee (HAC)

The Blue Mountains Heritage Advisory Committee (HAC) was established in 2010 and is an active working group providing support and advice to the Council on local heritage matters. Through its actions and contributions, the Committee encourages increased community participation, awareness and appreciation of heritage in the Blue Mountains area.

The HAC acts in an advisory capacity and has no formal delegations. It is composed of two Councillors; specialist Council officers; Council’s Heritage Adviser; Council’s Museum Advisor (as required) and eight to twelve community members who are appointed by the Council.

The roles and functions of the HAC include:

  • Promote heritage matters within the community
  • Provide advice to the Council in relation to proposed and current heritage listings, on heritage policy development and administration and on heritage project development and delivery
  • Assist in the establishment and administration of a Local Heritage Fund
  • Provide support for the Heritage Advisor in delivery of the Heritage Advisory Service, management of Council’s movable heritage collections, the Museums and Galleries Advisor in delivery of Council’s Museum Advisory Service and advice on the management of Council’s property including heritage sites, buildings, cemeteries and cultural landscapes further assist with identification and procurement of heritage grants.
