Position Description

The position delivers communications support across the City & Community Outcomes Directorate including:

  • Writing and editing of Council reports and memorandums
  • Writing of letters, media notices, and other supporting collateral
  • Development of PowerPoint slides for Council briefings and ELT meetings
  • Assisting with the development and implementation of communications strategies and plans for key Council projects and issues.
  • Assisting with the writing of Strategic Plan documents and editing to incorporate feedback


  • High level written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to write complex and detailed technical reports, proposals and submissions and present them to a range of audiences
  • High level interpersonal and negotiation skills 
  • Tertiary qualifications or equivalent experience relevant to the position

Sport & Recreation Coordinator - V18/4198

Position Description

This position acts as a central point of communication for issues relating to Sport and Recreation for Council. This position undertakes a high level of consultation with key recreation stakeholders including sporting clubs, district associations, the Blue Mountains Sports Council and other user groups.

This position identifies, develops and implements of work programs and projects with the Sport and Recreation program, ensuring positive recreation outcomes for all users within Council’s available resources. 

This position investigates, liaises and consults with sporting user groups and other stakeholders to develop good working relationships. This position identifies problem areas and investigates funding options with a view to improve the sport and recreation experience in the Blue Mountains.

Administration Officer - Environment & Culture Branch - V18/4199

Position Description

The purpose of this position is to provide a high level of administrative support to the Environment & Culture Branch.  This position will support and contribute to the development of administrative processes and systems to ensure efficient and effective outcomes.

Council is looking for a person who has demonstrated experience in developing and maintaining quality administrative systems and processes. The successful candidate will have a high level of written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills with an ability to deal with people on all levels and an ability to explain and negotiate complex issues.

Cultural Centre Cafe Coordinator - Part-time, 30.5hrs per week - V18/4190

Position Description 

To carry out and oversee the day-to-day operations of the Blue Mountains Cultural Centre Café/restaurant, ensuring the highest standards of service. 

Responsibilities include rostering, ordering, budget and stocktake control, adherence to food safety and service regulations, catering coordination and implementing business development initiatives. 

The Café Coordinator will be the ‘face behind the café/restaurant operations’ and foster a reputation for fine food and coffee, served within a relaxed and professional environment. 

An understanding of relevant food service legislation, food preparation and liquor licensing is essential. 

The successful applicant will have proven capacity in coordinating a busy café/restaurant operation. Exceptional people skills are essential together with a passion for high quality, fresh and healthy contemporary food. 

The Café Coordinator will be adept at multi-tasking and implementing innovative ideas for business growth and efficiency.

Landscape / Environmental Officer - Part-time, 21 hours per week - V18/4191

Position Description 

Located within the development planning team, the key responsibilities of the position include the assessment of landscape and vegetation management proposals associated with development applications, and the preparation of advice and evidence based recommendations against relevant legislation. Other responsibilities include meeting with applicants on landscape and environmental considerations to achieve improved outcomes, and providing horticultural and environmental advice on regulatory compliance matters. 

The successful candidate will be highly motivated, with tertiary qualifications (or an advanced diploma together with post graduate qualification) in landscape or horticulture; and experience in applying this knowledge across the range of assessment and regulatory issues in the development assessment environment. A proven record in providing excellent customer service is also key to the role.

Plant Operator - Mechanical Street Sweeper - V18/4192

Position Description

To carry out plant operations in Councils mechanical street sweeper completing programmed work, assisting in the cleaning of town centres and cleaning of stormwater infrastructure. The successful applicant will also be working with other maintenance and construction teams in assisting on other works. The work completed will be required to be recorded accurately for Council’s maintenance management systems. There may be times when you are directed to do other duties by your supervisor. 

Applicants must also have:

  • Current MR licence 
  • Proven competency in the safe operation of mechanical street sweeper or similar machine
  • High commitment to customer service
  • WHS induction card
  • RMS approved traffic control or willing to obtain in the first 12 weeks of employment
  • Demonstrated ability to keep accurate records

S1 Team Leader - Signs - V18/4193

Position Description

To manage effectively a team of 1 to 3 people to deliver traffic sign maintenance and erection and civil maintenance objectives in a timely manner whilst maintaining a high quality of customer relations to Council’s stakeholders. At times there may be items of plant to be managed and you will be required to work with other teams to achieve goals. Records will be required to be kept and submitted as required by the supervisor. The successful applicant will be required to employ best practice work processes and seek to continually improve work procedures.
