Springwood Library to be redeveloped

31 May 2019

Blue Mountains City Council is planning a $2.5 million facelift for Springwood District Library, thanks to funding received from the Western Parkland City Liveability Program.

Council accepted a tender for design consultancy services for the project at the Ordinary Council Meeting on 28 May 2019, which will result in a larger, contemporary light-filled public facility.

The proposed redevelopment includes full height glazing to the south façade on the ground floor, to provide a commanding view over the mountains and allow more natural light to enter the library.

The design concept for the upgraded library includes a modified reception area and rendered finish to the external façade. It also proposes new adult reading areas, a kids’ activity and reading area, lounge booths and study booths, as well as a new accessible lift.

Mayor, Cr Mark Greenhill, said: “Springwood Library is an important community facility and these upgrades will provide a modern library for the growing Blue Mountains community.”

The improved Springwood Library will also complete the redevelopment of this dynamic cultural precinct, following the opening of the new Blue Mountains Community Theatre & Hub in 2015.

The concepts for the redevelopment will now undergo a detailed design phase. Council will be seeking feedback from the community, on detailed designs later this year.
