Libraries offer ‘Select & Collect’ service
From Tuesday 2 June, Libraries at Springwood and Katoomba will allow customers to reserve and collect books, CDs and DVDs through the ‘Select & Collect’ service. Reservations can be made online or over the phone, by filling out a request slip, or by visiting Springwood or Katoomba Libraries. Items can then be collected from the branches from 11am – 4pm, Monday – Friday.
While other Library branches remain closed, items already on loan can now also be returned to book bins at any branch. But there’s no need to rush to return loans, as these have all been extended to 8 July.
Returns are via book bins only, to facilitate essential quarantining before items are returned to the collection and loaned out to other members.
The Libraries are only available for the ordering and collection of items – patrons will not be able to stay on the premises to browse. WiFi and the computer service are also not available at this stage.
Blue Mountains Mayor Mark Greenhill said: “This is a small step in our recovery. I know that many of our residents are keen to get back into the Libraries and enjoy browsing the collections, but a full opening would be premature. The ‘Select & Collect’ service is about bridging the gap between our customers and our Library collections, which have been out of reach during the COVID-19 shutdown.
“I know the Library team have been working hard behind the scenes on a phased approach to reopen a full Library service again.”
To make a reservation, visit the Library website at library.bmcc.nsw.gov.au, email firstname.lastname@example.org or call Springwood (4723 5040) or Katoomba (4780 5750) Libraries from 10am to 5pm, Monday to Friday. A reservation slip will also be printed in the Blue Mountains Gazette on 3 July 2020.
The ‘Pop-Up Library @ Home’ service is also still available, along with a range of eLibrary services. The ‘Pop-up Library @ Home’ service provides seniors and people living with disabilities with books and DVDs delivered to their door. These books are theirs to keep and do not need to be returned.
