Key strategic plans adopted by Council

Blue Mountains City Council has adopted three important long term Strategic Plans that outline how Council will address the Community’s priorities and aspirations, as identified in the Blue Mountains Community Strategic Plan 2035.

Mayor, Cr Mark Greenhill, said: “The Visitor Infrastructure Investment, the Waste Avoidance and Resource Recovery and the City Wide Parking Strategic Plans are important documents that will inform future planning and the delivery of services to the Blue Mountains community. 

“These plans are directly informed by the Blue Mountains Community Strategic Plan 2035, developed in consultation with the community.”

Council faces the challenge of providing improved infrastructure and services for an increasing volume of visitors, while satisfying the expectations of the community and the local tourism industry.

“The Visitor Infrastructure Investment Strategic Plan identifies the investment required to support visitor infrastructure, visitor services, city presentation and to identify additional revenue streams to fund this investment,” Cr Greenhill said.

“Modelling indicates that over 10 years, the implementation of this plan could generate indicative significant revenue to a fund that invests in infrastructure, visitor services and city presentation.”

The Waste Avoidance and Resource Recovery Strategic Plan identifies value for money actions that will reduce waste buried at Council’s only landfill, by continuing to improve how waste is avoided and recycled.

“The waste strategy focusses on the challenge of reducing the amount of waste we send to landfill,” Cr Greenhill said.

"Our landfill has a limited life, but as a community we can work together to extend that life. We can reduce the amount of waste we send to landfill by trying not to generate waste and recycling and reusing as much of the waste we generate as possible.

"This strategy provides a clear and sound way forward to support us in achieving that.”

The Citywide Parking Strategic Plan considers the need for parking across a range of town centres and destinations. It focuses on a ‘demand profile’ for parking across the Blue Mountains and a review of key issues and options for addressing parking needs.

“This plan provides Council recommendations which seek to minimise parking conflicts and assist in the planning of parking infrastructure over the coming 10-15 years. It will also have an important role informing wider planning processes and the preparation and assessment of development applications in the City.”
