Free Leisure Centre entry to thank our health workers!

31 Oct 2021

Blue Mountains City Council is showing its gratitude for our health workers with free Leisure Centre entry during the month of December

“It’s been a difficult year for everyone in our community as we faced lockdown for the second year running, when we were still reeling from the catastrophic bushfire season of 2019/2020 followed by major flooding,” Mayor Mark Greenhill said.

“Now, as we approach the festive season, let’s all show gratitude for the health workers in our LGA – the nurses, doctors and hospital staff – who have helped us through this pandemic, ahead of their own personal safety.”

Councillor Brendan Christie, who proposed the idea, said: “As a gesture of thanks on behalf of the whole community, Council is offering health workers free entry to all our Blue Mountains Leisure Centres during the month of December.”

In addition, as a reminder of how much they’re valued, Council is running a colouring-in competition from Monday 15 November. Children in our community can get involved, show their thanks and go in the draw to win some great prizes.

“This way, our healthcare workers can feel the love when they visit our facilities and see the images and expressions of support all around them,” Councillor Christie said.

Blue Mountains outdoor pools opened in September, followed by indoor pools for lessons in October. It is expected that all pools will be open to both vaccinated and unvaccinated in December, given the State Government’s current framework.

Also from 17 December, our regular swimming season pass will be available.

Council operates five pools throughout the Blue Mountains in the summer months, at Blackheath, Katoomba, Lawson, Springwood, and Glenbrook. Katoomba outdoor pool remains closed for the 2021/22 summer season for a major upgrade, expected to take 12 months.
