UPDATE MONDAY 28 JUNE, 2021 - KATOOMBA SHOWGROUND SINK HOLE

Katoomba Showground is still closed due to a sink hole caused by recent flooding. Works have begun on site today and fencing is being installed. The Showground is closed to the community and it is not safe to enter at any time, or for any reason. Only authorised staff can be on site at this time.

We will keep you updated when the Showground reopens.

*****

Council is required to close its sports grounds and ovals from time to time in response to adverse weather conditions and other circumstances. The decision to close and reopen sports grounds and ovals is made on a needs basis. When grounds are CLOSED it is to prevent damage to the sporting fields, usually during wet weather.

If grounds are declared CLOSED on the day of scheduled training, then training is not permitted. If grounds are declared OPEN, training is permitted at the discretion of the club.

  • Clubs and users are to conduct their own risk assessments for suitability of use for players and to avoid/reduce damage to the turf
  • Council is mowing the ovals, but there may still be long grass in patches and grass clippings on the ground
  • The ovals could still be damp in places due to the regular rain storms occurring
  • Ovals may still be wet in sections, if so play is not permitted on the oval
Users are to conduct their own risk assessment prior to use for suitability of use / play due to recent wet weather.
