The Audit and Risk Committee provides independent assurance and assistance to the Council regarding financial management, risk management, internal controls, legislative compliance, internal and external audit planning and reporting.

Expressions Of Interest are sought from suitably qualified and experienced persons to join the Blue Mountains City Council’s Audit & Risk Committee as external members, one of which will take up the role of the Chair of the committee.

Independent Audit and Risk Committee members will be expected to have skills and experience in one or more of the following areas: 

  • Finance
  • Technology  
  • Risk Management 
  • General Management
  • Public sector governance

The Audit & Risk Committee is currently comprised of three members; two external members and one Councillor. (The two external member positions will become vacant in early June 2020 and are to be filled via this expression of interest). 

Scheduled committee meetings are generally held four times a year in February, May, August and November. At present these meetings are usually held on a Tuesday, commencing at 3.30pm. The new members would be appointed and inducted prior to the August 2020 meeting.

The appointment of an external member will be made by Council for an interim period of up to 12 months with possible extension, pending the release of the new Risk Management and Internal Audit Frameworks by the Office of Local Government, NSW.

Expressions of interest will need to be in a form of a covering letter and resume, including names and contact details of two referees. The covering letter should briefly demonstrate the following requisite qualifications, knowledge and experience:

Qualifications

A member (or recently retired member) of CPA Australia or Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand.

Knowledge and experience

  • Financial management/reporting
  • Risk management systems and procedures
  • Internal business controls
  • Internal/external audits

Exposure to local government financial management and reporting is not essential but will be highly regarded. 

The position attracts remuneration which includes meeting sitting fee inclusive of preparation time.
