10th Anniversary

On Wednesday 2 December 2009 the Blue Mountains community will commemorate the 10th Anniversary of the Glenbrook Rail Disaster. This tragedy resulted in the loss of seven lives and 51 people being injured.

A number of events are planned for the 10th Anniversary of the Glenbrook Rail Disaster.

On Sunday 29 November a commemorative event is planned to be the held at the Everglades Garden, Leura. This event will commence at 10:30am and conclude at 3:30pm with music, speeches and a sausage sizzle provided. This event is open to the community and guests are welcome to bring a picnic lunch. The Everglades has agreed to donate a portion of the Garden entry fee to NRMA CareFlight.

A plaque unveiling, near to the site of the rail disaster in Glenbrook, is being planned for Wednesday 2 December. This event is being held for the survivors of, and the families affected by, the tragedy. Further information on this commemorative event will be provided closer to the time.

A 10th Anniversary Commemorative Dinner will be held on Wednesday 2 December. This special evening has been arranged independently for the Blue Mountains community and all affected by the tragedy. This formal event will take place at the Carrington Hotel Katoomba. Tickets are $75 per person and includes a 3-course dinner in the Grand Dining Room.
