Strategic Waste Action Plan (SWAP)

Blue Mountains City Council has developed a "Strategic Waste Action Plan" (SWAP) to guide the management of waste in our City.

Throughout April and May 2005, the Blue Mountains community were invited to participate in prioritising actions for inclusion in the SWAP. A Background paper was prepared which gave detailed information about trends in waste generation and management in Blue Mountains and New South Wales, issues that affect services and key drivers shaping ongoing management of waste. A Community Consultation Outcomes Report was prepared which details the community's responses during the consultation process.

The SWAP was adopted in July 2005 and can be downloaded at right.

Stakeholder Reference Group (SRG)

33 community representatives were invited to participate in a Stakeholder Reference Group that provided focussed feedback to Council between April – June 2005. Participants included local residents, representatives of local businesses, schools, environmental groups and community groups. Participants were invited on the grounds of their experience, knowledge and demonstrated interest in waste, local environmental and community issues in the Blue Mountains area. The group met a number of times, where they had input into the Consultation Paper, community meetings and the Draft SWAP.
