Interlibrary Loans

The Interlibrary Loans service allows staff to obtain books and other item not held in the Blue Mountain City Library collection for you. Before you request an Interlibrary Loan you will need to check the catalogue to make sure we don't already have the item you require and then visit any branch of the Library Service to complete an application form.

A small non-refundable charge applies for each interlibrary loan item requested. In addition, any fees levied by other libraries are passed on to you. Generally, public libraries do not charge, but university and special libraries do charge. Please state on your request whether you are willing to pay fees levied by other libraries. If not, we can limit our searches to public libraries.

The New South Wales State Library’s extensive loan collection can be accessed through Blue Mountains City Library via the interlibrary loan service. is  Over 30,000 items including books (published after 1930), videos, 16mm films and materials for people with disabilities are lent by the State Library each year, the majority to public libraries in New South Wales. Copies can be taken from documents that are not able to be loaned.

State Library materials are loaned to Blue Mountains City Library on the understanding that those materials are used within our library branches in order to preserve the collection as much as possible.  Please state on your request whether you are willing to use materials within the library branches. If not, we can limit our searches to other libraries.

The State Library of NSW also has a number of special purpose collections available for loan including talking books, captioned videos, large print books and, tape and text kits as well as books in over 40 community languages and English as a Second Language. These items are not restricted to in-library use. You can look up individual talking books and items in other formats by searching the State Library's online catalogue or alternatively, bulk-loan boxes of approximately 20 items can be requested from the State Library on Interlibrary Loan at no cost. These will stay at your chosen library branch for approximately 3 months, during which time you can borrow them as usual with your Blue Mountains Library Card.
