Heavy Vehicle Drive Neighbourly Agreement

The Blue Mountains Heavy Vehicle Drive Neighbourly Agreement is responding to community concerns and perceptions about the impacts of ever increasing heavy vehicles using the Great Western Highway, Bells Line of Road, Darling Causeway and Hawkesbury Road. The agreement has secured a commitment from the heavy vehicle industry and responsible agencies to enter into a voluntary Drive Neighbourly Agreement (DNA) that all heavy vehicles operate in a safe and courteous manner, for the benefit of all road users, including truck drivers.

There is broad agreement from all stakeholders that cultural change to driving behaviour by all road users, along with improved vehicle technology and maintenance, is required to achieve safer road conditions on state roads in the Blue Mountains and NSW.

The aim of the DNA is:

  • To respond to community concerns and perceptions about the impacts of ever increasing heavy vehicles using the Great Western Highway, Bells Line of Road, Darling Causeway and Hawkesbury Road and sharing it as our local road.
  • To improve the relationship and understanding of the trucking industry through the Voluntary Drive Neighbourly Agreement.
  • To deliver safer roads for all road users.
