Domestic Squalor Information Package

Launch of the Blue Mountains Domestic Squalor Information package to assist services help people living in or who are in danger of living in squalor.

Council staff, government agencies and local community organisations have identified as an important issue the problem of squalor affecting the lives of disadvantaged Blue Mountains residents. In particular this issue is experienced by the frail aged, people with disabilities and people living with or recovering from a mental illness.

In February 2009, Council convened a Working Party in partnership with various service representatives from the Aged Care Assessment Team, Community Options, Housing NSW, Eloura Industries, Mental Health Services, Katoomba, Home Care NSW, RSPCA and the Personal Helpers Mentors Program to develop a strategic plan of action to better deal with these complex cases.

This strategic plan of action resulted in a Domestic Squalor Information Package being developed. It provides useful information in identifying this condition and the appropriate support agencies to assist a person.

The Domestic Squalor Information Package may be downloaded at right.
