Blue Mountains City Council

First Peoples Advisory Committee

In September 2010 Blue Mountains City Council resolved to endorse the membership for the First Peoples Advisory Committee. The appointment of the First Peoples Advisory Committee members was the result of a broad engagement process where the local Aboriginal community was closely involved in supporting and developing the committee.

The First Peoples Advisory Committee will provide advice to the Council on matters that are significant to the Blue Mountains Aboriginal community. The Council will also seek advice from the First Peoples Advisory Committee when there are matters important to the Council that may involve the Aboriginal community.
The First Peoples Advisory Committee has been established to provide:

  • An opportunity where First Peoples voices can be heard on issues relating to the Councils polices, plans and services and First Peoples needs and priorities;
  • A robust communication mechanism, between the Council and the First Peoples communities; and
  • A meaningful engagement and relationship between the Council and the First Peoples communities.

The First Peoples Advisory Committee with other Committees and partnerships between the Aboriginal Community and Council, form an essential part of the Council's engagement with the Aboriginal Community to address local priorities.

The First Peoples Advisory Committee will meet a number of times per year at different venues in the Blue Mountains Local Government Area.
