Weed Control Notification
What to do if you have been asked to control noxious weeds on your property.
If you have been asked by Council to control noxious weeds on your property under the Noxious Weeds Act 1993, you will have received two (2) letters from Council:
- The first letter sent is notification that a Council Inspector will be entering your property (under Section 45), to inspect for the presence of noxious weeds. This letter will give a range of dates that the Inspector may enter your land, but also gives you an opportunity to arrange a time to meet the Inspector on-site to answer any questions you may have.
- The second letter (Section 18A) is notification that noxious weeds have been identified on your property and will inform you of which weeds are present. It will also give you the opportunity to submit in writing, any mitigating circumstances that may impede the control of the weeds by the due date. There will also be a range of dates that a Council Inspector will visit the property to check for voluntary compliance prior to a formal Weed Control Notice (Section 18) being issued. A Noxious Weeds Information Kit will also be included with this letter providing a variety of information including Contractors, Herbicides and Weed Control Techniques.
