Residential Insulation and Hot Water System Rebates
The NSW Government has introduced a new insulation and hot water system rebate effective 1 October 2007 under the Climate Change Fund. These rebates form part of the $100 million Residential Rebate Program.
To help householders save energy and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, the following rebates are available:
- $300 to switch from an electric to gas hot water system with a 5-star or higher energy rating; or
- Up to $1200 to switch from an electric to a solar or heat pump hot water system, which is eligible for at least 20 Renewable Energy Certificates; and
- Up to $300 to install ceiling insulation.
Hot Water System Rebate: The rebate for solar and heat pump hot water systems is based on the amount of greenhouse gas emissions saved, determined by the eligibility of your system for Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs). The hot water system supplier will identify the number of RECs available for different systems.
Ceiling Insulation Rebate: The insulation must be new and cover the entire ceiling area. Most ceiling insulation materials are eligible for rebate, including glass fibre, rock wool, polyester, cellulose fibre, polystyrene and reflective foil.
Rainwater Tank Rebate: The rebate provides up to $1500 depending on the size of the tank and whether it is connected to toilets and washing machines.
Other Criteria:
-
Rebates are not available for hot water systems, insulation or rainwater tanks installed to comply with BASIX for new homes or major renovations.
-
All rebates are available for residential use only. They are additional to any other rebate or incentive offer available to NSW residents. Rainwater tanks must be purchased and installed between 1 July 2007 and 30 June 2009. Hot water systems and insulation must be purchased and installed between 1 October 2007 and 30 June 2009.
Applying for the Rebate:
You apply for the rebates after the installation is complete.
For each rebate you will need to:
- Agree to the terms and conditions.
- Complete and sign an application form.
- If applicable, ensure a professional installer signs and completes any relevant sections of the application form.
- Attach original receipts.
- Full terms and conditions are listed on the application forms.
