Connect to Sewer
Council is the Appropriate Regulatory Authority (ARA, under the Local Government Act 1993) with regards to connection to sewer, and will prompt all properties with a sewer connection available to connect to sewer for long-term sustainability.
Council is currently working with Sydney Water to ensure connection of properties to sewer in both older sewered areas, as well as in Priority areas.
Click here for further information on Priority Sewerage Scheme areas.
There is a set process you will need to follow to have your property connected to sewer, and this is outlined in the 'Connect to Sewer Kit, which may be downloaded at right.
Appropriate decommissioning of your existing septic tanks should be undertaken upon connection to sewer. Council is presently working in line with the Department of NSW Health Guidelines for decommissioning of existing tanks. Council's 'Destruction, Removal or Reuse of Existing Septic Tanks' fact sheet may be downloaded at right.
NB- Unused septic tanks and collection wells present a collapse hazard if not adequately managed.
Sydney Water offers a process in connection to sewer applications for disadvantaged customers, and this process is outlined in the 'Sewer Connection for Disadvantaged Customers' brochure, which may be downloaded at right.
