Sewerage Scheme
Upper Blue Mountains Sewerage Scheme
Sydney Water is delivering the Upper Blue Mountains Sewerage Scheme, which will provide an improved sewerage service to the unsewered urban areas of Mount Victoria, Blackheath and Medlow Bath.
The scheme will help to eliminate risks to public health from poorly performing on-site sewage management systems and will help improve water quality in local creeks and streams.
The scheme involves the installation of new sewage pipes in Mount Victoria, Blackheath and Medlow Bath and the transfer of wastewater from the three villages to the Winmalee Sewage Treatment Plant. The existing treatment plants at Mount Victoria and Blackheath will be decommissioned once the new scheme becomes operational.
Blue Mountains City Council and Sydney Water will be requiring residents to connect to the sewerage system as soon as possible after it is commissioned. This will ensure that the important environmental and social benefits of the scheme are realised early. The new system will commence to be available for properties in Medlow Bath to connect to from 2008. Works in Blackheath and Mount Victoria are expected to be completed by 2009.
Further Information
As the new sewerage system progresses through your area and your property connects to the system, existing septic tanks, collection wells and AWTS are no longer needed, and are required to be demolished / removed or reused onsite as stormwater storage for irrigation purposes.

Hawkesbury Heights and Yellow Rock Sewerage Scheme
About the proposal
Sydney Water is planning to bring sewerage services to certain unsewered, urban areas of Hawkesbury Heights and Yellow Rock, under the NSW Government’s Priority Sewerage Program.
This will involve the installation of a pressure sewerage system and associated infrastructure in the two villages, and the transfer of wastewater to Winmalee Sewage Treatment Plant. About 340 property owners in the two villages will have the opportunity to connect to the new system.
The proposed sewerage system will reduce risks to public health from poorly performing on-site septic systems. It will also help to protect the environment, including local waterways.
What is happening now?
A Review of Environmental Factors (REF), which outlines the preferred option for servicing Hawkesbury Heights and Yellow Rock, will be on public display in February 2008. The community and stakeholders will have an opportunity to make comments on the proposal set out in the REF at this time.
Community information sessions
Sydney Water will also be hosting community information sessions for local residents to find out more about the scheme, the areas to be serviced and what is involved. Sydney Water staff will be available at these sessions to answer any questions you may have.
The dates and locations of community information sessions will be announced in late January 2008.
