Graffiti Management

Blue Mountains City Council is committed to the management and removal of graffiti across the Blue Mountains local government area.

Blue Mountains City Council, through its crime prevention committee, engages with community groups, public authorities, utility providers and the NSW police to ensure a coordinated approach to the prevention and removal of graffiti.

Graffiti is a costly Crime

  • Graffiti is the illegal defacement of public and/or private property, with markings or graphics without the owner's consent.
  • Graffiti can take many forms including design, words or images using paint, permanent markers, scratching or other materials such as stickers and bill posters.
  • In 2009/10 financial year the total cost of removing graffiti from across the LGA was $270,467. This cost to Council and to rate-payers does not include the hidden costs of administration (registering work requests etc), hire of specialised equipment and replacement of unrepairable assets.

In NSW, graffiti is considered a crime (vandalism) and is punishable by fines, community service orders or imprisonment.

Please report any incidence of graffiti to the NSW Police by contacting:

  • Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or
