Temporary Events

If you are considering operating a temporary food event i.e. market stalls, you need to seek approval from Council.

Recent years have seen a growth in the number of markets, festivals, fetes and fairs throughout Australia. This increase in interest and popularity is attributed to a number of factors including their attractiveness, community participation, consumer demand and Australia's favourable climate for outdoor events.

Depending on the size of the event, inspections may be carried out by Council's Environmental Health Officers. The inspection involves assessment as to whether provisions outlined in the Food Handling Guidelines for Temporary Events are followed.

These guidelines were developed by the NSW Food Authority in 2006 for the purpose of providing assistance to food operators trading at festivals, fairs, markets and the like, and outlines specific requirements which need to be complied with to meet the practical requirements of the current food laws.
