Inspections and Enforcement

Council is involved in the routine inspection of all food businesses within the Blue Mountains. The primary aim of these inspections is to ensure that food sold is safe to consume.

Council's role in food surveillance continues to be an evolving one in order to meet the challenges of community expectation, improve community health and protect the tourism appeal of a diverse range of food businesses in a vibrant community.

This section is intended to provide advice to all consumers and business operators as to how and against what criteria these inspections and assessments are undertaken.Issues dealt with include:

  • the fees charged;
  • the assessment criteria used for food premises and temporary events; and
  • the legislation against which these assessments are made.
Some of these inspections result in some form of enforcement action being taken be Council and a brief statistical outline is provided regarding the action taken.
