Environmental Events in the Blue Mountains
Blue Mountains City Council has an extensive events program over the year. There are many opportunities for residents and visitors to become involved in environmentally based activities.
In general the events program participates in the following national or internationally initiated events:
- Clean Up Australia Day - held first Sunday in March
- World Environment Day - held on 5 June each year (with local events in the week before and after this date)
- National Tree Day - held 1 August and 30 July for school events
- Threatened Species Day - held on 7 September (marks the day that the last Tasmanian Tiger died in captivity)
- Biodiversity Month - range of events held during September
- Weedbusters Week - activities held in the third week of October
- Water Week - held in the fourth week of October
- Recycling Week - held in the second week of November
- Sustainable House Day - held on 12 September
The Events program also participates in various Blue Mountains community-lead festivals and specific local events. These vary from year to year but include the following:
- Springwood Foundation Day - held on the first Saturday in April
- NAIDOC Week (National Aboriginal and Islander Day of Observance Committee) - held in early July
- Glenbrook Spring Festival - held in November
