Economic Development and Business Information
Blue Mountains City Council's business information services promote these goals:
The Mission Statement: Council strongly supports existing and intending business operations as the means of strengthening economic, environmental and community sustainability in the region.
The Vision: The Blue Mountains, through sustainable business growth and the strong capacity to shape its own future, is a business-friendly economic region.
In line with these objectives, Council has put together comprehensive information to assist existing regional business and, if you're considering locating here, your own intended operation. The following files can be downloaded at right:

Council actively supports regional business. Council sees continuing economic development as the key to business sustainability and therefore to wider environmental and social balance. Its goals in this regard link closely with other Council and Regional objectives, notably the 25 Year City Vision for Sustainable Living in a World Heritage Area, the Regional Three Year Tourism Plan and the Blue Mountains Business Advantage Charter.
The Economic Development Unit's role is to facilitate business information and services through engagement, sponsorship and personal contact. Whilst compliance matters are a fact of life, Council aims to provide a supportive climate for business development. In 2007, this Council Group won the prestigious Gold Award for Sustainability in the Local Government Management Excellence Awards.
Sustainable Development
In recent years, the need for so-called 'endogenous' growth - ie, continuing growth within the region, resulting from the region's own business activity - has become evident. This is due to a number of unusual challenges.
The Blue Mountains has a high percentage of national park lands, unavailable for business acquisition; and a unique natural environment requiring specific industrial exclusions and protections under World Heritage status.
Nonetheless, these very constraints present business opportunities. The region is ideally suited for home-based businesses in the fields of technology, service supply and design. The Blue Mountains Business Advantage (BMBA) program, moreover, has created an active framework for a World Heritage business advantage and a continuous improvement ethic.
Council accepts an active leadership role in the partnership between regional business and the region's principal business organisations.
