Applying for a Bush Fire Hazard Reduction Certificate

It is essential that all residents who reside in bush fire prone areas prepare and maintain their properties in a way that will reduce the impact of a severe bushfire in their area. To assist residents with their preparation, Bush Fire Hazard Reduction Certificates are available, which are a single, quick and streamlined environmental approval process for the removal and modification of bush fire prone vegetation for fire protection purposes.

In order to provide the best balance between bush fire hazard reduction and protection of the environment, approvals are granted in accordance with standards set by the Bush Fire Environmental Assessment Code (2006).

As of November 2009, an application for a Bush Fire Hazard Reduction Certificate can be made to the NSW Rural Fire Service. Click here to be directed to the RFS Website for further information and to download an application form.

The Blue Mountains District Office of the RFS can be contacted on (02) 4784 7444 for further advice.
