Before work starts on your landscape, remember to consider erosion and sediment control, just as you would during the building phase. Even small losses of soil have an impact on our waterways, particularly when each "small loss" is multiplied by the number of development sites in the area.
If your landscape design /plan calls for any form of soil disturbance, or if you are having soil delivered to your site in bulk quantities, you'll need to ensure that none of it becomes available for transportation into the drainage system. A sediment fence needs to be put in place around these material stockpiles.
Remember that substantial fines / clean up notices can be issued by Council, for any sediment / rubbish migrating off the site. Regularly maintain sediment controls until construction is complete and the site is stablised.
Revegetate disturbed areas promptly. If you intend to use provenance plant material, you will need to collect seed and have it matured and hardened off enough to be ready for planting. |
